Knowledge like iceberg Part is hidden and the other visible part so it divided to Tacit Knowledge & Explicit Knowledge.

  • Tacit Knowledge: this type of knowledge which people carry in their mind ,therefore difficult to transfer to another person by means of writing it down or verbalizing it (Ex: Body Language , Leadership & Innovation.........etc).

  • Explicit Knowledge: this type of knowledge which can be articulated and easily communicated between individuals and organizations (Ex: Daily or weekly reports, reviews, technical review & writing journals or articles..........etc).

what is Knowledge Management ???

There are several different destinations for KM like :

is an umbrella term for a variety of techniques for building, leveraging and sustaining the Know-how and experience of an organization's employees.

but there are different perspectives on what KM is For example:

  • KM is about systems & technologies.

  • KM is about people & learning organisations.

  • KM is about processes, methods and techniques.

  • KM is about managing knowledge assets.

  • KM is a holistic initiative across the entire organisation.

KM is not a discipline, as such, and should be an integral part of every knowledge workers daily responsibilities.

  • Intellectual Capital: we considered it as asset,The value of a company or organization's employee knowledge, business training and any proprietary information that may provide the company with a competitive advantage.

  • Organizational Culture: organizational culture as part of to KM are reflected in employees behavior, which may be treated as direct manifestation of employees attitudes in relation to different aspects and organizational solutions concerning KM.

  • Information Technology: as we are living in digital age so KM require a certain level of technology and infrastructure support to be effective. As business processes become increasingly complex, KM can be fully implemented only when appropriate information and communication technologies are available.

As a result of the powerful changes in the organizations' environment, KM became an integral part of the organization's strategic plan to increase the capacity of the Organization to handle new market challenges and opportunities, so Implementing a KM system offers several benefits:

  • Get together a dedicated team.

  • Evaluate technology needs & prioritize them.

  • Determine the major attributes of knowledge management system.

  • Ensure that implementing KM System process must be gradually to ensure that the overall objective can be divided into smaller goals to ease out the procedure and make it more efficient.

  • Link knowledge to people

  • Launch the KM system.

  • Measure and constantly Improve your KM system.
